I don't want to sound like a go-buy-this type of girl but I thought sharing some of my favorite things for yoga wouldn't hurt.
It took me a while to find what I feel most comfortable in. A lot of trial and error. Buying something because it looks good only to later find out that it's really uncomfortable.
For example a bought a pair of compression tights because you know "everyone" is wearing them...man oh man...I almost had to rip them off. They were hot and uncomfortable. I wore them once for running and gave them a second shot once for yoga. I felt as if the fabric was burning my skin! I've never worn them again. Note to self: I live in a very hot weather country. I later learned that I could wear compression socks or calf sleeves if necessary.
So it's tricky. Reading a good review of a product or seeing someone wear something can trigger a compulsive purchase...and I don't like compulsive anything.
Read my opinion and maybe if you are into comfort (like me) you will find this helpful.
I guess it is here where I should insert a disclaimer. My opinions are based on comfort. I don't like how un breathable Dri-fit fabric can be. I don't like synthetic, tight and restrictive materials.
Having said that here are my comfort-based-go-to yoga stuff:
1. UnderArmour Seamless essential sport bra
This is my NUMBER 1 (yes all caps) for yoga. This sport bra is a gift from UnderArmour to the world. I am not very gifted, you know, in that particular area, so finding a sport bra that is comfortable would seem easy but it is not. I obviously drift toward smaller sizes but every single one I've bought has been too constricting. I honestly thought that was how a sport bra was supposed to fit. I may have confused support for strangulation.
Anyhow one day I bought this sport bra just because it was green. Yes, I had no hope for it other than it would look green and pretty but to my surprise it was the best -not just sport- bra sport bra ever.
The fabric is so breathable and it expands when I breath. Yes, it actually expands.
I can't recommend it enough. I am so in love with it that this is the only bra I am bringing for a backpacking trip we are planning with the hubs (more on that once things are planned out more thoroughly)
2. Nike Legend 2.0 tight fit training capris
First of all I have to say that I would rather do yoga in cotton pants than in any other fabric material. I feel cotton is so relaxed :) The only problem I find with cotton is that it tends to be ehhh see-through.
I found the Nike Legend capris just like I found the sport bra. There they were, hanging at the store, all pink and pretty so I bought them. They were a perfect fit which also helped.
Even though they are Dri-Fit fabric (something I normally move away from) they are still very breathable. They are made of 88% polyester and 12% spandex and as if I know of fabric composition I'm going to go ahead and say that this is why they are different from other Nike tights. I have different pants and tights from Nike and these are the only ones with this fabric composition. I checked the label before writing about it here.
This tights seem to hug you instead of squeeze you aaaaaaand they come in such pretty colors!!!!!!!
3. Nike Women's Chain Print Loose Fit T Shirt
Just like with the pants I'd rather wear a loose fit cotton shirt which is honestly what I do BUT I recently found this shirt at the store and it works great. I don't like tight shirts for yoga, I really don't feel comfortable so having found this Nike shirt was a pleasant surprise.
Even though this is not something you wear I decided to include my yoga mat in the mix. I would have thought this mat was going to be very popular but now I'm not so sure. It may be because I live in a country where there are no Lululemon stores but my yoga mat gets a lot of questions.
I used a random yoga mat when I first started doing yoga but as I got more serious about it I decided to invest in a good yoga mat. I also needed a new one because my old one was kiiiiiiiiind of peeling off. I asked one of my teachers what she recommended and she told me a very wise thing. She told me to stay away from pretty colors and get a black thick one.
So a black thick one it was! I bought it from Lululemon on a trip to NY and we've been BFFs ever since.
One of the most common questions I get is if it's slippery because the surface is really shiny. The answer is no. It never slips. Ever.
Looking at other yoga mats I understand that there are others that are as black, thick and non-slippery as mine but they tend to be pricier.
So, that is that for the yoga stuff.
On a side note what I do need to find is my OM sound.
